Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Alabama Chapter office is in constant need of volunteers. As you know, we are ranked among the most efficient and effective nonprofit organizations in the country. To keep costs down and the research dollars flowing to change lives, we need your help. “What can I do,” you ask? Got an hour? There is something for every talent, time, and ability. You don’t even have to leave your home if you don’t want to! Below is a list of volunteer activities that you can help with.
Anytime
Make phone calls to other volunteers – Volunteers are needed regularly to make phone calls regarding events, annual fund, auction items and thank you calls. Call volunteers to see if they can help with events, call to coordinate pick up of auction items, thank participants for coming to events, contact donors about future events, and relay research updates. This can be done from your own home at your own pace taking as much or as little time as you can spend thanking donors for their efforts.
Pre-Event
Committee Members – Each signature event has a committee. Committee members work together and individually on obtaining sponsorships, teams, donated items, volunteers, and help with logistics. This is an on-going process and requires an hour a week of individual time and three or four meetings a year. Please contact the office at 205-870-8565 or Alabama@cff.org for more information about a specific event.
Data Entry – If you have an hour during the week (M-F 8:30-4) and you enjoy data entry, we need volunteers to enter auction item data into the computer system before each event at the chapter office.
Auction – Ask for something while you’re shopping at your favorite store, or talk to a friend who has vacation property. Travel, vacations and big ticket items are great if you know anyone willing to donate these items. You can also spend a little time visiting local businesses and put together packages that represent your community (ex: Night out in Mountain Brook, Pampered Pelham, Dine in Dothan, etc.)
Set Up – Volunteers are needed to help set up each event. Decorations, auction, registration tables as well as setting up computer equipment, printers and paperwork for registration and auction. This will require some light lifting, bending and reaching.
At the Event – We ask that CF patients follow Infection Control Policies.
Data Entry – we need volunteers to enter auction item data into the computer system during the events to ensure a smooth and easy auction process for event participants.
General volunteers – during the event volunteers are needed to keep an eye on auction tables, greet participants, spot for live auction, assist in giving people information about things going on at the event, handing out auction items, registration, etc. Some of these volunteer positions require light lifting or extended standing but many can be done while seated.
Break Down - Volunteers are needed to help clean up after the event. Pack up decorations and remaining auction items as well as packing computer equipment, printers and paperwork for registration and auction to return to the chapter office. This will require some light lifting, bending and reaching.
Post-Event
General Office – After events we need volunteers to help put everything back where it belongs. One hour of light lifting, bending, stretching during the week between 8:30-4pm.
