A Friendly Competition Between
Fierce Rivals for a Good Cause
Battle of the Badges is an exhilarating stair-climbing and fundraising competition that raises money and awareness for the work of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Join hundreds of firefighters and law enforcement officers at the Rhodes State Office Tower on February 27, 2010 to race up 40 flights of stairs as part of a relay team (2 person or 4 person) or tackle the entire tower yourself. The fastest individuals from the Fire Climb and the Law Enforcement Climb will be recognized at the 2010 Arnold Fitness Expo.

Pleasant Township firefighter Lt. Kalub Patterson and Columbus Police Officer Tony Monturo have daughters with cystic fibrosis (CF) - a genetic disease that shortens their lives by damaging their lungs and digestive systems. More than 10 million Americans are unknowing, symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Fifty years ago, boys and girls with CF rarely lived long enough to attend elementary school. But today, thanks to the efforts of scientists and caregivers supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the median age of survival is nearly 37. More research is needed, however, to continue adding precious years to the lives of children like Taylor and Macey Monturo and Makenzie Patterson. |
