THANK YOU to all who participated, donated and volunteered at the Aptalis CF Cycle for Life ride on Sept. 22. This event was a true success and the Foundation could not be more pleased.  We saw more than $12,000 in growth this year from this cycle event alone, and an increase in riders by 30%! Those are huge numbers and we have all of you to thank for that. The 2012 Aptalis CF Cycle for Life ride not only met budget but exceeded it by bringing in more than $50,500! Again, thank you to all of our participants, donors and volunteers – and a very HUGE and special THANK YOU to Aptalis! We look forward to next year’s cycle event!

About the Event:

The 3rd annual Aptalis CF Cycle for Life is a one-day ride where hundreds of men and women will come together to participate in a GREAT event to find a cure for cystic fibrosis.  Participants will have four scenic route options to choose from:  25, 38, 65 or 100 miles.  The ride is a fully supported journey with well-stocked rest stops every 12 miles, support and gear (SAG) vehicles, GREAT prizes and much more. This unique event empowers participants to take action and demonstrate their fight in finding a cure in a tangible, emotional and experientially powerful way.  The Greater Cincinnati Chapter’s 2012 goal is to host 200 cyclists and raise over $50,000.  With your help, we know we can make this a success!

Participants under the age of 18 are not permitted to participate in the Aptalis CF Cycle For Life®.  Bike helmets are required to ride.

CF Cycle for Life is a pledge event. In addition to the registration fee we require all cyclists to raise a minimum funraising amount to participate in the ride. Registration fees are not tax deductible and do not count towards your fundraising total. Your Minimum Pledge Requirement is tax deductible and must be turned in on or before event date.

If your minimum pledge requirement has not been met, you will have the option of providing a credit card or cash on event day. You will have one month after the event to submit the remaining balance before your credit card is charged.

TIP - When registering you will be asked to state your fundraising goal (which you can change later). You may select any of the amounts from the pull down menu that are ABOVE the ride's minimum fundraising goal. If the minimum fundraising goal is not an option in the pull down menu, you will need to select the shaded block that is immediately above the minimum amount - and then type in any other amount above the minimum.

Because of risks to people with cystic fibrosis, individuals with a confirmed positive sputum culture for Burkholderia cepacia complex shall not attend this event. This is because B. cepacia can be passed between individuals who have CF through close proximity. B. cepacia infection in a person with CF can cause serious respiratory illness and, in some patients, may lead to death.

Despite this policy, there might still be some individuals with B. cepacia in attendance. B. cepacia is not a risk for otherwise healthy individuals. Learn more about alternative ways in which a person with B. cepacia can participate, or call the CF Foundation at (800) FIGHT-CF. Consult your CF care center physician with medical questions.

Important note on attendance for people with CF and their families:
The health and well-being of people with cystic fibrosis is our top priority. Medical evidence shows that certain bacteria can be passed between individuals who have CF and can lead to worse symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To limit the serious risk of cross-infection between people with CF, only one person with CF may be invited to attend the indoor portion of each CF Foundation-sponsored event.  For the outdoor portion of the event, people with CF should maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from each other.

Please note: People with CF and their families should be aware that individuals with CF might choose to attend Foundation events or meetings without notifying event organizers. We strongly discourage this; however, we cannot guarantee that only one person with CF will be present at any indoor Foundation event. For more information, please call your local chapter.
