The annual Tower Climb & Run event is THE most unique athletic challenge fundraising event in all of San Antonio and South Texas! The challenge is to either run as a competitive or non-competitive climber up the 952 steps to the top of the Tower of the Americas, all the while raising critically important research funds helping to fund the cure for cf. Participants may choose to go either as a competitor (running chip timed 1 mile around the grounds of the Hemisfair Park and The Institute of Texan Cultures and ending at the top of the Tower of the Americas) or they may choose to participate as a non-competitor in which they will only climb the steps to the top of the Tower and will not compete nor be chip timed. Now in its 29th year, we invite all of San Antonio and athletes from across the State and Country to be a part of this unique annual event benefiting the CF Foundation!

Important note on attendance for people with CF and their families:
The health and well-being of people with cystic fibrosis is our top priority. Medical evidence shows that certain bacteria can be passed between individuals who have CF and can lead to worse symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To limit the serious risk of cross-infection between people with CF, only one person with CF may be invited to attend the indoor portion of each CF Foundation-sponsored event.  For the outdoor portion of the event, people with CF should maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from each other.

Please note: People with CF and their families should be aware that individuals with CF might choose to attend Foundation events or meetings without notifying event organizers. We strongly discourage this; however, we cannot guarantee that only one person with CF will be present at any indoor Foundation event. For more information, please call your local chapter.

Welcome to the 29th annual Tower Climb and Run Event web page!
In order to ensure you and your team have the BEST possible experience, we’ve developed some frequently asked questions to help you understand the event and what you can expect that morning.

Q:  What does competitive versus non-competitive mean?
A:
Those who run the event as a “competitor” run a 1 mile course, wear a chip so that their time may be captured and calculated and then conclude by running up the 952 steps of the Tower of the Americas, where the finish line is.
A “non-competitor” means that there is no chip to wear, no race bib, no 1 mile run that precedes the climb and no opportunity to place in either an age or gender category.  Simply the non-competitors walk up the stairs with others at their own pace and the finish line is also for this wave at the top of the 952 steps.

Q:  What is the average time to climb all of the stairs for a non-competitor?
A:
The average time to complete the limb of all 952 steps is between 20-30 minutes.

Q:  What can one expect when the event concludes for all competitors and non-competitors alike?
A:
There will be refreshments, food, beer live entertainment (all free) as well as an award ceremony for the competitors who placed and won in their age, gender and team categories
