The festivities kicked off Thursday, June 11 at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside with our silent auction and patron party. Continuing a tradition Honorary Chair Bobby Hebert and the entire WWL crew broadcast their show live from the event while patrons dined on an assortment of New Orleans favorites prepared by the Hilton. It was an especially proud night for Garric Schoen, one of the event’s founders. He, along with four generations of his family, watched his grandson, John Holmes, speak to the crowd as the 38th Annual Event Chairman. John did an excellent job at recruiting new committee members and opening new avenues to fundraising for the event. Another tradition that was continued was honoring committee members who show outstanding dedication to the mission of the CF Foundation and the golf tournament – the Stephen C. Teagle Award. Jim Harp presented the award Jay Maumus of Stonebridge Country Club and Tony Abadie of the Hilton. As the time ticked down on the auction certain items drew a large crowd of bidders most notably dinner in your home prepared by Chef Brian Landry of Galatoires and a fabulous golfing trip to Florida donated by new committee member Tim Hand.
On Friday 49 teams teed off at the 38th Annual AT&T Bobby Hebert Cystic Fibrosis Golf Classic and made their way around the course at Stonebridge. Along they way they were treated to bacon and eggs from Shoney’s, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, PJ’s Coffee and bloody marys with ZingZang and VODKA in the morning. Throughout the rest of the day food on the course included Acme oysters and red beans, Dominos pizza , Drago’s shrimp pasta salad, Galatoire’s shrimp remoulade, crawfish pasta from the Hilton, Hooter’s wings, Hubig Pies and Zapp’s Potato Chips. Golfers washed it all down with specialty drinks from Republic National, beer from Crescent Crown, RedBull and Coke products. Lunch was provided by WOW Café and Wingary and food as the golfers came off the course in the afternoon was donated by Zea Rotisserie and Grill and Piccadilly.
At the turn golfers were greeted by Mrs. Louisiana, Miss Louisiana, Miss Teen Louisiana, Miss Teen XXX and Miss Teen XXX. They sold our putting contest - a chance to with a Triumph donated by The Transportation Revolution. On the course contests for closest to the hole and longest drive were held with Taylor Made specialty clubs for the winners.
At the end of the day the committee looked back at a very successful event netting $96,000! Many CF Families were in attendance and were in awe of the efforts the committee, sponsors and Bobby had made on their behalf. They can not thank all the participants and volunteers enough for taking a swing at CF!
