Xtreme Hike

Event Overview

 Hiker Main Logo

Wisconsin’s first Annual XTREME HIKE was held on Saturday, October 5, 2013. In just one day, a dedicated team of 20 Xtreme Hikers trekked 30 miles on the Ice Age Trail to raise funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis.
Despite the rain showers, our hikers set out on the Ice Age Trail in support of the CF Foundation’s quest for a cure! Hikers trained with volunteer coaches for 10 weeks and each hiker committed to raising much needed funds to find a cure. These dedicated hikers, many who had no previous knowledge of CF, raised an amazing $92,000 during the 10-week period!

Very few people attempt to hike 30 miles in one day. Our hearty group started out at 5:30 a.m. in the dark, equipped with headlamps and flashlights. The first group to complete the hike, finished in 9 hours and 24 minutes!! The elevation gain for the entire hike was 1,951 ft. and an elevation loss of 2,042 ft. The second group was not far behind. As groups continued to flow in they were met by volunteers, a massage therapist and nice cold beer!

The Xtreme Hike experience included a three month training program, workout calendar, training hikes prior to event, lodging for 3 days and 2 nights, transportation to and from the trail on hike day, aid stations along the trail stocked with food and hydration, XTREME HIKE wicking shirt, pre-Hike pasta party, post-Hike picnic, victory & awards breakfast. Thanks to our generous in-kind donors we were able to provide hikers with a taste of Wisconsin offering an array of locally made food products. The event was truly a showcase of all the best Wisconsin has to offer.

Important note on attendance for people with CF and their families:
The health and well-being of people with cystic fibrosis is our top priority. Medical evidence shows that certain bacteria can be passed between individuals who have CF and can lead to worse symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To limit the serious risk of cross-infection between people with CF, only one person with CF may be invited to attend the indoor portion of each CF Foundation-sponsored event.  For the outdoor portion of the event, people with CF should maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from each other.

Please note: People with CF and their families should be aware that individuals with CF might choose to attend Foundation events or meetings without notifying event organizers. We strongly discourage this; however, we cannot guarantee that only one person with CF will be present at any indoor Foundation event. For more information, please call your local chapter.
