Congratulations to Brant & Jessica Standridge, Co-Chairs of BB&T presents An Evening on the Severn, for the spectacular success in raising over $315,000 to further fund cystic fibrosis research. This Event, held at the magnificent residence of Edward St. John on the Severn River, sets the pace for this fundraising year. Brant and Jessica were joined by Brian and Martha Gibbons, Greenberg Gibbons Commercial Corporation and Chip DiPaula, Petrie Ross Ventures as Co-Chairs, Coach Gary Williams, University of Maryland, as Honorary Chair, and together, created a one of a kind evening where guests were |
treated to fine wines by Axios Napa Valley, an unparallel live and silent auction and performances by distinguished youngARTS alumni. The guests were captivated by the story of CF Ambassador Austin Gordon, passionately told by his mother, Laura Gordon. Laura spoke to many BB&T area executives in May, educating these individuals on the challenges faced by those with cystic fibrosis. Laura communicated the urgency of our mission, and as such, BB&T began a six week campaign to raise money in each of the 50 branches in the Chesapeake Region. Brant encouraged each group to formulate their plan, and set up weekly conference calls to track their progress. Kathy Barron, Brenda Wooten and Peggy Singleton each helped to motivate and support the branches, and amazingly, after the first week, over $10,000 was raised. The enthusiastic team at each of the branches planned events, including cook-outs, dunking booths, happy hours, casino nights, silent auctions, raffles and more. Even their loyal customers supported BB&T’s efforts and generously donated to the cause at each of the branches. By the end of the third week, over $40,000 was raised, and by the end of the sixth week, nearly $95,000 was banked, lead by the Central Avenue and Centreville branches, doubling their original goal! This dollar amount was incredible by any standard, however, the awareness that this campaign achieved was as crucial as the funds raised. At the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we’ve found that the more people we educate about the plight of those affected, the more volunteers will become advocates in the fight to control cystic fibrosis and eventually find a cure. Ultimately, at the conclusion of An Evening on the Severn, it was announced that BB&T raised over $159,000 toward the $315,000 net.
