Winemasters' guests gather at Paramount’s New York City back lot.
It was like a scene from the movies. The soft glow of lights from neighboring apartments brightened the darkened streets. Auction tables, covered in long, white linens, lined the sidewalk. In this particular movie, however, the “characters” were actual guests enjoying A Culinary Evening with the California Winemasters to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Held on the “Streets of New York” back lot at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood, the 17th annual Winemasters brought nearly 1,400 people together for the Southern California Chapter-Los Angeles Office’s sold-out event. The artistry of 45 chefs from across the nation and 67 California wineries helped to create a magical evening, which generated a record $1,135,075 for the CF Foundation.
In addition to the array of magnificent wine and food, including delicious fruit arrangements donated by Dole Food Company, Inc., guests enjoyed the opportunity to bid on more than 900 items in silent and live auctions, including rare wines, a dinner for 10 with Lisa and Dustin Hoffman and B.B. King’s prized guitar “Lucille.”
The impressive success of the 2006 Winemasters was due in part to the creative leadership of co-chairmen Cal Stamenov of Marinus at Bernardus Lodge and Joel Peterson of Ravenswood, as well as the generosity of sponsors American Airlines®, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Great American Group and American Express. Since its humble beginnings almost two decades ago, Winemasters has grown into one of the largest single-day charity wine auctions in the world.
