“If you didn’t have cystic fibrosis, what would you most want to do?” people sometimes ask Beth McCarthy. “My response is simple,” she recently told 200 guests at The Lending Group, Inc. 65 Roses® Golf Tournament in St. Augustine, Fla. “I want to read a book to my son at night and never have to cough.”
Helping people with CF attain their dreams was at the heart of the Florida Chapter-Jacksonville Office’s seventh annual golf tournament to benefit the CF Foundation. Organized by Beth’s husband, Jim, CEO and co-founder of The Lending Group, Inc., the May event offered guests the chance to play on the World Golf Village’s famous championship courses, while raising funds for CF research and care.
“It was a magnificent setting,” noted event committee member Jim Ash, president of the Pineapple Corporation. “Playing on a challenging course, meeting old and new friends, our golfers had the time of their lives.”

The tournament featured several contests and team prizes, including weekend getaways, wine and dinner packages, and golf outings. Following the day of golf, guests attended a reception at the World Golf Hall of Fame, where they viewed exhibits celebrating the legacies of the greatest golfers in history.
Overall, the event raised more than $144,000. Claudia Werner, executive director of the Florida Chapter-Jacksonville Office, attributes the success of this year’s event to Jim’s outstanding leadership, the generosity of The Lending Group, Inc., and an outstanding committee who bought into the concept of taking the tournament to the next level and sold the sponsorships to ensure success.
“The Foundation has meant a lot to us over the years,” Jim McCarthy said. “I am pleased to give something back to this wonderful organization and continue helping find a cure for Beth and for all those who have CF.”
