After enjoying another delicious course, Rod Harris and his wife Linda celebrate the evening's success.
For nearly 10 years, the Oregon Chapter’s Chef’s Dinner Extraordinaire has added a dazzling Northwestern flavor to fund-raising for the CF Foundation. In March, 200 guests gathered at the elegant Portland Ballroom in Oregon’s Convention Center for a fabulous dinner and a menu of activities to support CF research. The event raised $130,000.
Throughout the evening, dinner guests sampled divine dishes prepared by seven of the top Portland-area chefs and premiere wine from an array of local wineries. As each course was served, the chef who prepared it, along with the featured restaurant and winery were showcased in the live auction.
Especially sought after was dinner for 10 by Chef Marco Shaw of Fife and cooking lessons from Ronnie MacQuarrie, from Southpark Seafood Grill & Wine Bar. The dinner’s chairman, Larry VandenBrink, provided a choice with his auction package—the winner could choose summer water sports and dinner at VandenBrinks’ home or an Oktoberfest feast prepared by locally known Chef Kurt Mezger at his cozy Swiss chalet home at the base of Mt. Hood. Rod Harris, president of Harry’s Fresh Foods, the title sponsor, auctioned off a catered cruise up the Columbia River on his yacht.
Harris, who originally joined Chef’s Dinner to support the culinary community, has grown truly devoted to the CF cause. He notes, “We’ve been the title sponsor of the Chef’s Dinner for a number of years now and really enjoy the ability to not only mix with some of Oregon and Washington’s best chefs and vintners but also make a difference in the lives of children and young adults with cystic fibrosis.”
