Mackenzie Rosman presents a plaque to a student council member at Deer Creek High School for their tremendous efforts to raise money through CureFinders®.
Known as the loveable Ruthie Camden from the TV series “7th Heaven,” which recently ended an 11-year-run, Mackenzie Rosman made time for a star performance in the CF community. As special guest of the Sooner Chapter, Rosman congratulated two Oklahoma high schools on their outstanding success raising money through CureFinders®, the CF Foundation’s spare change collection school program.
Earning a personal thank you from Rosman were the students at Deer Creek High School, which was named the top earning fund-raising school in 2006. Through a variety of fund-raising activities, students raised an astounding $32,000 for CF research in just one week.
Much like her work as an actress, Rosman takes her role as the national honorary chair for CureFinders® very seriously. Her deep commitment to the CF cause is a personal one. “My stepsister Katelyn has CF and recently underwent a double lung transplant,” noted Rosman.
While in Oklahoma, Rosman also visited Edmond Memorial High School, which leads the country in CureFinders® fund-raising in 2007. Their fund-raising comes complete with a “Swine Week” theme, as classes compete to raise the most money for the CF Foundation. Adding their own spin to CureFinders®, students asked for donations, organized dances, dodge ball tournaments, choir concerts, and set dares, like shaving their heads, for money. Their efforts were also boosted by a generous donation from BJ’s Restaurants, which matches up to $2,000 of money raised through CureFinders® at participating schools near its restaurants.
After a fun day in Oklahoma, Rosman thanked the true stars of the show: all the students whose tremendous fund-raising efforts could help make a difference in the lives of people, like Katelyn, who battle CF every day. “Our family wants to thank the students of Oklahoma for their dedication to fighting this devastating disease.”
