Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of many throughout the CF community, we continue to make important progress in CF research and to build a strong fund-raising portfolio.
In this issue of Commitment, you will learn of the latest developments in our quest for new treatments for CF. Recently, Gilead Sciences released outcomes from one of its Phase 3 clinical trials of aztreonam lysine for inhalation, an experimental new antibiotic treatment for people with CF. This study showed that volunteers receiving inhaled aztreonam could go significantly longer without additional inhaled or intravenous antibiotic treatments. Other exciting research collaborations with Inspire Pharmaceuticals and PTC Therapeutics, Inc. have also yielded promising results. Any one of these—or the nearly 30 potential therapies in our pipeline—could have a profound impact on the lives of those with CF.
Among our most important efforts this year is our newly launched Clinical Trials Initiative, which aims to recruit more clinical trials participants. People with CF who join clinical trials are among our most important contributors to CF research. Without patient volunteers, research and progress in the fight against cystic fibrosis are not possible.
We are now in the heart of our 19th GREAT STRIDES season. Communities across the country are on board, embracing the Foundation’s mission to find a cure and providing critical support by reaching out to their families, friends, co-workers and local corporations to expand our circle of volunteers and participants. With your continued commitment, we are confident that GREAT STRIDES will be more successful than ever before.
In addition to our signature special event, our largest major giving campaign, Milestones to a Cure, continues to build strong support across the nation. A promising new initiative, the Milestones Club, was developed to deepen the roots of support for the campaign throughout the country. The Club honors donors who have made generous multi-year commitments of $50,000 to $100,000 to the campaign. This is a very exciting opportunity.
These are just a few of the terrific efforts currently underway. I hope that you will take a moment to read more about the latest CF Foundation news and enjoy the second issue of Commitment that incorporates our new visual identity. With your continued support, we will surely continue to add more tomorrows every day to the lives of those with CF.
