Sara and Darren Dein traveled a long way from London to present a check from the Liv charity benefit to Robert J. Beall, Ph.D., Foundation president and CEO (center).
CF Foundation friends Sara and Darren Dein, from London, came a long way to visit the national office in Bethesda in March. They brought with them far more than good wishes and a desire to see the D.C. sights. In fact, they hand-delivered a check for two million dollars to Robert J. Beall, Ph.D., Foundation president and chief executive officer.
The Deins' wonderful generosity is the result of the Liv charity benefit held in London in January and named for Olivia, their 2 ½-year-old daughter who has CF. The benefit, starring Sir Elton John, brought together more than 400 guests, including Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah, whose son Fraser also has CF. The net proceeds from Liv will be shared equally by the UK's Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the CF Foundation.
"It was both an honor and a great pleasure to have the opportunity to thank the Deins personally," said Beall. "With such outstanding friends, the Foundation will surely succeed in its mission."
C. Richard Mattingly, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Foundation, also was delighted to be able to personally thank the Dein family. "We are so grateful to have the partnership with Sara and Darren. Their friendship is invaluable," he said. "We look forward with great anticipation to working with the Deins on other projects in the future that will help us all meet our ultimate goal, a cure for cystic fibrosis."
