Brenda Fox, Employee Co-Chair of the CVS/pharmacy Advancing Medical Research Campaign for CF
When Brenda Fox’s daughter Hannah was 2 years old, she and her husband Gary knew something wasn’t quite right. “We took her to the doctor because she had a sniffle that just wouldn’t go away,” Brenda recalls. “Gary and I thought she had allergies. Then the doctor started asking us more questions about her symptoms and recommended that she be tested for cystic fibrosis.”

Hannah was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, and the couple’s son Lucas, who was 5 years old at the time, was also diagnosed with CF soon after.
Knowing very little about the disease, the Foxes were devastated — and Brenda immediately began searching for more information online. “I found all of these scary things about how it causes serious lung infections and how it shortens life expectancy,” she says. But after connecting with her local CF Foundation chapter, Brenda says she soon found hope for the future in the work being done to find a cure.
It wasn’t long before she joined her chapter’s staff to expand that hope, and with the help of her family, friends and her employer, CVS/pharmacy, began to raise funds to advance the Foundation’s mission to cure cystic fibrosis.
Partnering with CVS/pharmacy in the Fight Against CF
Today, Brenda, who works as a store manager for CVS/pharmacy, helps others learn about the disease that affects her two children and the progress being made toward a cure. She will serve as the Employee Co-Chair for a nationwide CVS/pharmacy campaign called Advancing Medical Research to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at the cash register.
Customers visiting CVS stores Memorial Day weekend through the end of June will have the opportunity to donate to the CF cause during checkout.
While this campaign is the first to benefit cystic fibrosis at the more than 7,000 CVS/pharmacy stores nationwide, Brenda’s local Indianapolis CVS store already knows a thing or two about raising funds. Brenda’s co-workers have been faithful and enthusiastic participants on the Foxes’ Great Strides walk team since her children were diagnosed.
“My family and friends keep me hopeful, and my local CVS store has been so supportive of this cause,” Brenda says. “We can’t fight CF alone, but with the help of CVS stores across the country, I know we can achieve amazing things.”
