CF Medical Conference Convenes in Denver

November 3, 2006

 2006 NACFC Denver

The 20th annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference got underway Thurs., November 2, in Denver, Colorado, with more than 3,000 physicians, scientists and allied health professionals attending from around the world.

The opening sessions covered a wide range of topics, from introducing brand new techniques for identifying novel drugs to correct the defective CF protein, to finding ways to improve the delivery of care to individuals with the disease.

One of the most popular sessions presented data on on-going clinical trials of drugs, such as MOLI1901and PTC124 designed to correct the CF defect at the cellular level. Results from these trials looked very promising—short-term results for MOLI1901, for example, suggested that lung functions improved with the treatment. Longer term trials are needed to confirm these results. To catch a glimpse of what potential therapies for CF are currently in development, click here.
