Barry Manilow Takes Show on the Road for CFJanuary 17, 2007
On January 8, world-renowned singer Barry Manilow wowed a crowd of more than 9,000 CF Foundation supporters, including more than 100 families affected by CF, with an exclusive concert at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore. This concert is only one of two cities where Manilow will perform, with the exception of his Vegas show in 2007.
As guests waited in anticipation for the concert to begin, 100 avid fans enjoyed a VIP dinner and reception at the arena’s Courtside Club. Three-year-old Ella Deveaux, who has CF, presented Harvey Platt, president and CEO of Platt Electric Supply and member of the Oregon Chapter’s board, with her hand-drawn pictures of pianos and musical notes. Platt’s leadership had convinced Manilow to bring his show from the Vegas stage to the Portland arena.
Around 8 p.m., bright lights flashed on stage, signaling the start of the concert. The crowd cheered as Barry Manilow stepped out to tell the excited crowd: “Tonight is not just a night of music and fun. Tonight is a night to celebrate raising loads of money for cystic fibrosis.” Thanks to a wonderful show and more than 100 media, business and corporate sponsors, the concert raised more than $400,000.
