Wal-Mart JEB BUSH Florida Classic Raises $1 Million

 Jeb Bush Golf 07
Event Chairs (l - r) Steve Savor, Juan Morales, Governor Jeb Bush,
Dave Ericks and Stan Smith take a moment to enjoy their hard work
helping to create a wonderful event for all guests.

January 19, 2007

Whether fishing, golfing or playing a rousing match of tennis, guests of the Florida Chapter-South Florida Office's 11th annual Wal-Mart JEB BUSH Florida Classic had plenty of exciting outdoor activities to choose from.

Beginning the festivities was a Captain’s Party held on Dec. 13 at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale, followed by a Billfish Tournament and Gala and Charity Auction the next day. After the Bid for a Cure speech, The Wasie Foundation generously pledged $50,000 to the Foundation, which was quickly matched by Scott Steele, owner of Steelesoft, Inc. and Cayman Arts.

On Friday, Dec. 15, guests hit the golf course at Coral Ridge Country Club and competed alongside professional golfers Bruce Fleisher, Rocco Mediate, Jesper Parnevik and Lance Ten Broeck. Another highlight of the week was Chris Evert’s participation with guests for the Tennis Pro-Am Tournament.

“On behalf of our 92,000 Wal-Mart and SAM’S Club associates in Florida, we are pleased to have helped with this great cause,” said Ronny Hayes, the regional general manager for Wal-Mart. “We are proud to be part of the ongoing efforts to find a cure. The Jeb Bush Florida Classic is helping fund cutting-edge research and care that are critical to people with CF.”

Under leadership of co-chairs Dave Ericks, Juan Morales, Steven Savor and Stan Smith the Wal-Mart JEB BUSH Florida Classic raised an astounding $1 million for CF research.

Special thanks to Governor Bush, who was joined by an outstanding honorary committee that included Butch Buchholz, Brett & Karen Cormier, Jay Ecklund, Marti & Wayne Huizenga, Dr. Arthur and Belinda Keiser, Christine & Howard Lance, Paul Sallarulo and Chris Sullivan. The event’s success would also not be possible without the generosity of Title Sponsor, Wal-Mart Stores; and Presenting Sponsors, Anderson Group of Companies, Harris Corporation and Wayne and Marti Huizenga.
