Celebrities Serve Up $90,000 for CF Research

On December 19, 300 guests gathered at a favorite local hotspot overlooking the Ohio River—Jeff Ruby’s Waterfront—for the Greater Cincinnati Chapter’s Celebrity Waiters: The 20th Anniversary Celebration.

Igniting the celebration were more than 40 celebrities, including reality TV stars and current and former athletes and coaches from the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Cyclones, who mingled with guests and sold balloons and celebrity-autographed aprons to raise money for CF research.

During the luncheon, sports fanatics were thrilled to get a chance to bid on one-of-a-kind items such as a framed and personalized photo of Pete Rose’s 4,192th hit and a suite at Xavier University’s arena. Former NFL player Boomer Esiason matched all the money raised from the live auction and donated it directly to the Foundation’s Milestones to a Cure campaign.

Rickelle Ruby, founder and chair of the event, later spoke to the audience about the importance of helping people living with CF. “This cause is greater than all of us gathered in this room,” she said. “What we do today is a step toward curing this disease. These kids need you.” With more than $90,000 raised by the end of the luncheon, Celebrity Waiters boasted a cumulative $1 million raised for CF research in its 20-year-history.

Special thanks go to co-chairs Rickelle Ruby and Tina Glass; corporate sponsors The Robison Family Foundation, Novartis, Lexus, The Linder Foundation; and volunteers Tricia Macke, Betsy Ross, Mary Wright, Pete Rose, Debbie Detmer, Lydia Volz-Schneider, Sheila Pohlkamp, Kim Pluess, Sandy Schick, Dawn Stinson, Charlie Bledsoe and Carolyn Thornell.
