A cover story in the May 7 issue of Chemical & Engineering News prominently features the CF Foundation’s business model. The article describes how the Foundation's strategy of funding early-stage, high-risk drug research has successfully fueled a pipeline with nearly 30 promising therapies.
"In 1998, the CF Foundation made the bold move of adding a new component to its research funding strategy: enticing for-profit companies to get involved in cystic fibrosis research by absorbing the early financial risk involved in developing new drugs," says the article. "[The CF Foundation] could not have known...how critical this model would be to maintaining a robust early stage pipeline for the pharmaceutical industry."
