Friendly Competition Sparks Generosity at Texas Fund-raiser

June 18, 2007

The championship golf courses at Gleneagles Country Club in West Plano, Texas, are every golfer’s dream, with their challenging water hazards, immaculately sculpted greens and lush fairways. On June 4, more than 240 golfers got a chance to play at the club’s exclusive courses on behalf of the Northeast Texas Chapter’s 19th annual Del Frisco’s Classic.

Honorary Chair Dee Lincoln gives 13-year-old Katie Bieler a hug after her Bid for a Cure speech.
For guests who left their golf skills at home, the event offered a delicious dinner and exciting auction at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, voted one of America’s top 50 restaurants by Zagat Survey in 2005. On the eve of the golf tournament, more than 450 guests gathered at Del Frisco’s to support the Foundation’s mission.

Even before the tournament, the competitive spirit was alive and well as guests went bid for bid to capture coveted auction items. A trip to Napa went for $25,000. A dinner hosted by the event’s honorary chair and the restaurant’s vice president of operations, Dee Lincoln, drew an additional $26,000. Aiming to raise even more money for CF research, Lincoln turned a dinner for 10 at Del Frisco’s exclusive wine room in Dallas into a dinner for 20 to raise $17,000. The package was so popular that a second one was offered for the restaurant’s Fort Worth location.

With an ear to the ground for new ways to increase vital CF research dollars, Lincoln has more than tripled the amount raised at the event since she began volunteering in 1998. Her leadership, in addition to the generosity of corporate sponsors Synergy Properties Group, Wachovia, John Woodall and American Airlines®, helped the Del Frisco’s Classic raise $370,000.

“The Del Frisco’s Classic has evolved into an unbelievable event, and I am very proud to help make a difference in all the lives that are touched by CF,” Lincoln said. “We will find a cure!”
