CF Foundation Aims to Increase Clinical Trial Enrollment

July 10, 2007

Today, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation announced an important initiative: to double the number of people with cystic fibrosis who participate in clinical trials over the next two years.

“To help potential new drugs for CF move swiftly from the research stage into the hands of patients who need them, we need more people with CF to take part in clinical trials,” said Robert J. Beall, Ph.D, president and CEO of the CF Foundation. “Without patient volunteers, research and progress are not possible.”

To raise awareness of this need, the Foundation has:

The CF Foundation—with the help of volunteers, donors and research centers—has built a robust drug development pipeline, with nearly 30 promising therapies being developed to treat CF. Several Phase 3 trials currently are recruiting large numbers of volunteers to test new therapies. To successfully complete these trials, more than 1,000 people with CF are needed.

Here’s how people with CF can support this critical initiative:

  • Learn more about clinical trials
  • Ask a CF care team for more information
  • Join in testing new treatments

Family members and friends also can help, by increasing awareness of clinical trials and their importance.
