How Sweet It Was…in Upstate New York

October 15, 2007

How Sweet It Was In Upstate NY
Mark Polverelli, from Freihofers, joins Board member Glen Lupien and his daughter Abigail on the dance floor.
With roses and chocolates sprinkled throughout the Wolferts Roost Country Club in Albany, N.Y., the Northeastern New York Chapter’s 65 Roses Gala truly lived up to its “How Sweet It Is” theme and raised $67,000.

Gourmet cuisine, elaborate chocolate creations and specialty cocktails were among the many treats on hand for the nearly 200 guests who gathered on September 15 to help raise money for the CF Foundation. During the gala, attendees viewed a video featuring Abigail Lupien of Delanson, N.Y., who has CF, as well as honorees Freihofers and George Weston Bakeries, which served as a touching reminder of the purpose of the event.

An impressive array of live and silent auction items, from a Weber grill and pop-up tent, to “Wicked Sweet”—tickets for two to see Wicked on Broadway—created excitement among guests. Another hot-ticket items included the “I’m Going to Disney World Package”—round-trip airfare on American Airlines®, hotel accommodations, and Family of Four Hopper Passes to the Walt Disney World Theme Parks. Abigail was happily surprised when Friehofers generously won the bidding and presented her and her family with the tickets.

“Freihofers and George Weston Bakeries are proud of their association with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” said Mark Polverelli, of George Weston Bakeries. “After attending CF Foundation events, and meeting with people affected by cystic fibrosis, it’s hard not to join the CF family. We have invited all of our colleagues to do the same.”

A big thanks is due to the dedicated event committee, as well as corporate sponsors Freihofers, Price Chopper Supermarkets, Merrill Lynch and, Weingarten, Reid & McNally, LLC.
