Little Red Corvette Revs Up for Cystic Fibrosis

November 5, 2007

Arthur's Jam
Julie Fiedor, Mary Weiss, Amanda Fiedor, Kelley Dunn and Jack Fiedor at Arthur's Jam.

It was red hot at the 12th annual Arthur’s Jam on October 13, 2007. Arthur’s Jam honors the life of beloved Palm Beach resident Arthur Weiss, who lost his battle with cystic fibrosis in 1996, just short of his 36th birthday. The celebration combines two of Arthur’s greatest passions—exotic cars and music. The event to benefit the CF Foundation takes place each year at Ragtops Motorcars, a car museum and party venue.

The dress was “red hot casual” to reflect this year’s theme—Little Red Corvette, with women in fiery red fashions and some men sporting bright red slacks. Three hundred guests strolled among the historic automobiles, sipping cocktails and sampling hors d’oeuvres. After dinner, Ragtops rocked and rolled to the tunes of DJ Boogie Brent.

Diners enjoyed fine Italian delicacies from Carrabba’s Italian Grill and then stepped up to bid at the live auction. Auction items included a dream trip to Tahoe, a cruise on a private yacht, a behind the scenes tour of the #1 rated local television station with news anchor and CF board member Kelley Dunn, and three wine dinners for ten prepared by The Breakers Executive Chef and CF board member Anthony Sicignano.

Thirteen-year-old Amanda Fiedor touched the crowd with her moving speech on living with CF. “I am passionate about winning this fight against CF and proud to represent a disease that has come so far—but not quite far enough,” she said. “We must get to the finish line!”  The subsequent Bid for a Cure raised more than $66,000. Each bidder received an 8-inch, die-cast red Corvette to thank them for their generosity.

The Florida Chapter - Palm Beach Office's Arthur’s Jam raised more than $160,000 for the CF Foundation. Event co-chairs Julie and Jack Fiedor said, “We are simply overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from our friends and business associates. And it’s wonderful to know that an event like this significantly enhances the awareness of cystic fibrosis in our community.”

The success of Arthur’s Jam would not have been possible without the hard work of committee members Valerie and Jeff Boyd, Jill and Matthew Chait, Susan and Chuck Gableman, Michelle and Dennis Goldstein, Carrie and Mark Imbertson, Jessica and Dana Koch, Hollie and Brett Elhilow, Danielle and Craig Storch, Liz and Marc Yavinsky, and Emily and Ted Ward.

The Weiss family is a sustaining supporter of Arthur’s Jam. Corporate sponsors included Braman Motorcars, 1st United Bank, Arnstein & Lehr LLP, Bernstein Wealth Management, The Nicoletti Group at Morgan Stanley, Phoenix Realty Companies, The Pingleton Group at Merrill Lynch, Orion Bank, Uznis Development, LLC, Shutts & Bowen, LLP.
