Indianapolis Wine Opener Offers Heartfelt Toast to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

April 18, 2008

What do Curious George, robots, and fine wines have in common? All three were on display at the Indiana Chapter’s fifth annual Indianapolis Wine Opener in February. Held in the atrium of the colorful Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the night of wine and culinary delights drew more than 1,200 guests and raised $120,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Guests sampled more than 300 types of wine and delectable foods from 13 local restaurants as they enjoyed music from area jazz band Double Exposure. Throughout the evening, guests took advantage of the opportunity to view the playful Curious George exhibit which explored how children learn and an exhibit on the high-tech world of robots.

A highlight of the event was an exciting auction that brought many bidders to their feet in pursuit of a football autographed by Super Bowl stars Peyton Manning and Brett Favre. Other coveted items included a crystal and gold earring and necklace set from Indianapolis custom design house G. Thrapp Jewelers and a deluxe vacation package to Grand Bahamas Island.

“Our event committee of local young professionals really rallied for the event and made it their own,” said committee chairperson Grant Jenkins. “They were responsible for bringing in nearly $25,000 in new sponsorships. Their enthusiasm was amazing.”

Many thanks go to corporate sponsors Tom Buck, Paul Murans, Doug Kistler, Bob Parke and Terri Terhune of The Buck Group of Merrill Lynch; Olinger Distributing; Buz Nesbit with Bright House Networks; Tom Wood Lexus; Charter One; and Simon Property Group.

The event could not have succeeded without the efforts of volunteers Joe Giordano, Tony Leppert, Michael Lake, and Jeremy Sowders, all new event committee members whose efforts at securing new auction items were particularly appreciated.
