North Carolina’s Herald-Sun Spotlights Great Strides and the Foundation

April 18, 2008

The Herald-Sun newspaper of Durham, North Carolina, ran a story today focused on the Foundation’s efforts to raise money through an upcoming Great Strides walk. It also features the Foundation’s progress in developing effective therapies for CF, including an oral drug known as VX-770.

"We have a really compelling story, a story that 25 years ago looked like it was a death sentence when you were told your child had cystic fibrosis," says C. Rich Mattingly, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Today, “We have a remarkable pipeline of drugs that are developed or being developed,” and the life expectancy for those afflicted with the disease has risen to 37—double what it was 25 years ago.
