Delighting in the Details at Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Benefit
May 12, 2008
From the hand-painted china plates presented to each beaming chef to the chocolate truffles tucked into the guests’ “goodie” bags, the personal touch was everywhere in evidence at the Northern New England Chapter's Taste for a Cure in April. Such attention to detail was well worth the effort; the evening of good food and great company raised $109,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Honorary Co-chair Jennifer Grunbeck, President of Riverstone Resources, Bill Gillett and wife Kathy enjoy the evening’s festivities. The Grunbecks welcomed their son Mitchell into the world just four days after Taste for a Cure.
Held at the stately New Hampshire Institute of Art, Taste featured an array of culinary creations from spicy stuffed tortillas and crab profiteroles to a lavish margarita pie for dessert, all donated by local area restaurants. As they circled the tempting food stations, 180 guests listened to the high school jazz combo from nearby Bedford Youth Performing Arts, savored the scent of fresh lilies donated by local area florists, and bid on trips to Ireland and St. Maarten at the silent auction.
But the night’s highlight was undoubtedly the moving Bid for a Cure speech from event committee member Paula Garvey, mother of 10-year-old Rosie who has CF, and the extraordinary generosity it generated from Honorary Chairs Jennifer and Robert Grunbeck and others. The Grunbecks, who were expecting the birth of their own child virtually any minute, offered to match any amount donated up to $15,000.
“I am just astonished by the generosity of people like the Grunbecks and so many of our business friends who have no direct personal connection to CF,” says Paula Garvey. “They have simply embraced our cause as if it were their own, and we are so very grateful.”
The event could not have succeeded without the enthusiastic support of Event Committee Chair Janet Prisk, Honorary Co-Chair Jennifer Grunbeck and members Bernice Rowe, Jennifer Rogers, Marge Curry, Paula Garvey and Jeannine Farinella; and corporate sponsors American Airlines® and Riverstone Resources. Special thanks also go to Emeran Langmaid of A&E Coffee Shop, who donated one dollar for each pound of coffee sold in the month of March and raised more than $1,000 for the CF Foundation.
