Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Shares Superbowl Champions' Home for a Day

The chance to use an NFL football arena as their own private playing field attracted more than 350 enthusiastic guests to the Greater New Jersey Chapter’sSports Challenge fund-raiser, held in April at Giants Stadium, home of the Super Bowl XLII Champion New York Giants football team. The first-time event included a behind-the-scenes look at the Giants’ home base and the opportunity to meet legendary athletes, raising $65,000 for cystic fibrosis research.
Giants' offensive lineman Shaun O'Hara wowed the crowd by spending the day with them at the Sports Challenge.
Sponsored by Aramark and DegreeMen, Challenge featured a host of teams competing in a series of mini-Olympic events, from team jump rope and football throw to an obstacle course and putting contest. Throughout the day, participants enjoyed the company of Giants’ offensive lineman Shaun O’Hara, and were surprised by a cameo appearance from undefeated and world-ranked cruiserweight boxing champ BJ Flores.
After a day of vigorous competition, participants took an exclusive tour of the Giants’ locker rooms and had their pictures taken with their favorite professional athletes. At a catered lunch in the elite press box high atop the stadium, guests were delighted to mingle some more with O’Hara, who also served as Honorary Chair of the event.
“I’m honored to help out the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in any way that I can,” says O’Hara, who also signed autographs during Challenge. “People with CF are living longer and better lives thanks to the Foundation’s outstanding work.”
The Foundation would like to acknowledge key volunteers who helped to make Sports Challenge a winner: Event Chairs O’Hara and Bill Squires, Flores, and corporate sponsors Kohl’s A-Team, Aramark, DegreeMen, Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Deloitte and Touche, Wachovia, Keyspan, Johnson & Johnson and New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.
