August 1, 2008
At the Heart of America chapter’s Gala at the Glen: Betting on a Cure in May, 110 guests gathered in Olathe, Kansas to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, raising $260,000 for research toward a cure for CF.

Details That Made a Difference
Event Chair Beau Guyette attributes the evening’s success to “putting on one heck of a classy party that everyone wants to attend.” Against the backdrop of a Vegas nightclub, guests dressed in black tie, smoker’s jackets, sequins and pearls, sipped martinis, played blackjack and hummed along to the songs of Sinatra-style lounge singer Frankie Vig. Roulette, blackjack, and crap tables were packed, with players donating all winnings to the CF Foundation.
Two related events raised additional dollars: a golf day with celebrated University of Kansas basketball coach Bill Self and a progressive evening of art, south-of-the-border cuisine, and chocolate desserts for the ladies of Cedar Creek.
“In the past 12 years, we’ve raised over a million dollars and helped make huge advances towards a cure,” Guyette says.
