Round 5 of the Delaware Valley Chapter’s Fight Against CF is a Knockout

October 15, 2008

Charlie's Fight Night
Charlie's Fight Night was dedicated to Charlie Clarke (front, center), who stands with parents Jim and Lisa, Phillies mascot Philly Phanatic, and siblings Casey and Alex.
If you’re a Philly native and a sports fanatic, the Delaware Valley Chapter’s fifth-annual Charlie’s Fight Night was the place to be on September 5 when some of the area’s most famous sports stars showed up to sign autographs, hobnob with guests and help raise $230,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Details that Made a Difference

Held at the stadium’s VIP Diamond Club, Charlie’s Fight Night, named for 11-year-old Charlie Clarke, is the chapter’s largest and most successful fund-raiser. More than a dozen sports celebs, including Philadelphia Flyers right wing Mike Knuble and a host of Philadelphia Phillies baseball players, attended the event.

Hockey fans held their breath when bidding began on the evening’s sole live auction item: a Philadelphia Flyers Fantasy Package, an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel with the professional hockey team to an away game.  Keeping it in the family, Joseph Clarke, Charlie’s grandfather, was the high bidder at $12,000.

Even with all the stars in the room, 11-year-old Charlie’s burned the brightest.  “The night revolved around Charlie,” said Charlie’s mother and event Co-chair Lisa Clarke, “and his mission – and passion – to raise money for CF research.”
