More than 250 guests crowded the Chevrolet Theater in Wallingford, Conn., for the Sportscasters’ Super Ball to raise $185,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Hosted by ESPN’s Joe Tessitore and the Connecticut Chapter, the black tie gala honored professional athletes and local community leaders, including:

  • Scott Burrell, Connecticut athlete, Native Son Award
  • Stephen Picard, 15, CF Rookie of the Year
  • Luis Tiant, former baseball great, Legend Award
  • Liz Zlatkus, CFO of The Hartford, Community Leader of the Year

As part of the live auction, Tiant, a famed pitcher and member of the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame, threw pitches into the audience for $1,000.  Picard, an avid hockey player and CF Rookie of the Year, touched the audience with his Bid for a Cure speech.

“I am strong enough to be on the ice every day because of your generosity,” said Picard.  “Thank you for helping me stay in the game.”

The Connecticut Chapter would like to thank Stacy Britnell, Laura Clinton, Suzanne Goldberg and Christine Radocchia for their hard work in planning this event, and its corporate sponsors EMC, Finlay Printing, International Aero Engines and Reach Foundation.
