Californians Lift Their Glasses for a Cure

September 21, 2009

Kiptyn Locke, center, a finalist on ABC’s “The Bachelorette,” auctioned himself off for two dates.
For food lovers and wine connoisseurs, the San Diego Chapter’s fourth annual Uncork the Cure event was the place to be in downtown San Diego.  The lively night of fine wine and great eats drew more than 300 guests to raise more than $42,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Trendy Tastes
Held at the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center, the evening featured tastings by eight of San Diego’s hottest restaurants and 12 local wineries.  VIP ticket holders were invited to an exclusive cooking demonstration by Chef Gerrad Meriwether of Oceanaire Seafood Room.  Bare Back Grill’s lamb sliders and Karma Tequila’s namesake liquor were crowd favorites, and Oceanaire offered top of the line sushi to taste throughout the evening.

Donate for a Date
The highlight of the night was an appearance by ABC’s “The Bachelorette” finalist, Kiptyn Locke.  Locke auctioned himself off for two dates.  Word of his attendance traveled outside the San Diego region, garnering bids from Foundation supporters as far as Canada.  Locke’s live auction dates raised a total of $8,400.

The guests danced to jazz music by the Ed Graves Trio and attended an after party hosted by Syrah Wine Parlor, with proceeds benefitting the CF Foundation.
