When something big is happening in Chicago, the tops of the skyline buildings spread the word with colorful lights and illuminated messages, from GO HAWKS to VOTE 2008. Now CURE CF is among the Windy City’s soaring statements.
Home to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Greater Illinois Chapter office, the Smurfit-Stone building—known by locals as the “diamond building”—is one of the most recognizable parts of the Chicago skyline.
So when chapter Executive Director Molly Riley was preparing for this year’s Great Strides walk weekend in downtown Chicago this May, it seemed only fitting that the sky would shine with the ultimate goal of all those participating in the festivities.
“It’s an honored tradition within the city of Chicago to light up your building to recognize a significant event,” Molly says. “And we thought, what more significant event for us than Great Strides—and what better message to spread than ‘Cure CF’?”
