For golf lovers and CF Foundation volunteers in the Chicago area, the idyllic rolling acres of the Knollwood Club provided the perfect stage for the Greater Illinois Chapter’s Liberty Mutual Invitational golf tournament this August—and even the sun came out on the big day.

“You could not have asked for a more perfect day to be out on the golf course,” event co-chair David Morris says. “The club, the course, the event, the weather—everything was perfect.”

The crowd of 120 competed for prizes and enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and live and silent auctions, all in support of the CF Foundation’s critical mission.

Bidding for a Cure

To kick off the live and silent auctions, Sabrina Morris, 9, who has CF, shared her family’s story, with her sister Sophie, 12, who also has CF, by her side.

Sabrina spoke about her love of sports and musical instruments, her hopes of getting an athletic scholarship to Stanford University someday, and Sophie’s interest in the clarinet.

“When I am involved with these activities, I am your average kid,” she said. “At other times, my life is all about CF.”

After describing their treatment regimens and challenges, Sabrina thanked her mom and the crowd for helping to “make our lives so much better.”

Inspired by the sisters’ story, attendees bid on exciting items, including foursomes at prestigious golf courses in the Midwest, floor tickets to a Chicago Bulls game and a golfer’s getaway package.

The Invitational raised $85,000, and volunteers look forward to continuing the tradition for years to come.

“We are building this to be the must-attend golf event in the Chicago area,” Morris says. “Next year, the event will be even bigger and better.”
