Law Allowing Retirement Charitable Gifts Extended
January 12, 2011
A popular charitable giving tax incentive for seniors has been extended.
Under the “IRA Charitable Rollover Provision,” persons aged 70½ or older can make a tax-free charitable donation – up to $100,000 per year – from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA).
The provision was recently extended to allow seniors to donate to charity without tax consequences in 2010 and 2011. The deadline to make a tax-free charitable gift for the 2010 tax year is January 31, 2011.
