Joining more than 170 guests, some of South Florida’s most influential trendsetters shone brightly at the inaugural Miami-Dade Shining Stars Gala held this November to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Attendees gathered to honor 11 local leaders for their professional and charitable accomplishments, outstanding leadership and positive impact on the community, while netting $61,000 to support critical CF research and medical programs.

“It was a magnificent experience to stand before a room filled with Miami’s Shining Stars,” said event chair Margarita Lamadrid.

"We will continue to work together in our quest for a cure because in the midst of difficulty, there is always opportunity.”

Bid for a Cure

After enjoying a fine dinner, guests bid on exciting items in live and silent auctions. Bonnee Axler Binker, who has a granddaughter with CF, gave an impassioned Bid for a Cure speech to inspire the crowd.

“When a child is diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, it profoundly changes one’s life,” Bonnee said. “To the honorees, the committee members, the volunteers who are always available and willing to lend a hand, and everyone here tonight, I have no words except thank you for letting us know that we families affected by cystic fibrosis are not alone.”
