NACFC 2011

2011 North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference Kicks Off in Anaheim, Calif.

November 3, 2011

Nearly 4,000 doctors, researchers and caregivers from around the world are gathering today in Anaheim, Calif., for the 25th annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference (NACFC), sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

This year’s meeting comes at a critical point in the history of cystic fibrosis. For the first time, a potential drug targeting the underlying cause of CF for a segment of the CF population is under review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, with possible approval in 2012.

“This is truly an amazing time for the CF community, and this gathering reflects the innovation, hard work and spirit of cooperation that has contributed so much to our progress,” said Robert J. Beall, president and CEO of the CF Foundation.

From Nov. 3 through Nov. 5, attendees will meet and exchange ideas on the latest in CF research, care and drug development. Highlights of the 2011 NACFC include:
  • Emerging therapies that target the core defect in CF.
  • Research on CF genetics and mutations.
  • Partnering with families to improve the CF care.
  • Best practices in adult CF care.
