In late February, more than 400 volunteers came together at the fourth annual Northwest Arkansas Wine Opener for a relaxed yet lively evening of wine sampling and raising funds in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission.

“It’s a really exciting time for the CF Foundation, as we’re making a lot of progress toward our goal of curing and controlling the disease,” said Northwest Arkansas branch development director Laura Sylvester, citing recent positive results of a clinical trial.

Guests enjoyed sipping wine from commemorative tasting glasses, sampling fine cuisine from a dozen local chefs and perusing the extensive marketplace and silent auction fare featured at the event.

To inspire the crowd to bid on more than 250 exciting items, chapter board member Chip Stacy delivered the Bid for a Cure speech in which he spoke of his hopes and dreams for his son who has CF. The Wine Opener raised a total of $103,000 — a record for the event, and for any of the chapter’s fundraisers — to help fund lifesaving CF research and care programs.
