February 5, 2010

(Bethesda, MD)—As part of a steadfast commitment to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis, BJ’s Restaurants, Inc. donated $521,000 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 2009 for research, care and education programs. BJ's has been involved with the Foundation since 1998 and is one of its largest and most loyal corporate supporters.

“We are truly grateful to BJ’s restaurants, their team members and their customers for their generosity and desire to help support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission,” said C. Richard Mattingly, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “This disease still takes many lives, but thanks to remarkable medical research, life expectancy continues to rise and people with cystic fibrosis are living longer than ever before.”

Each year BJ’s raises funds for the Foundation from new restaurant grand openings and its “Cookies for Kids” campaign. In this program, a portion of every sale of BJ’s signature dessert – the Pizookie – is donated to the Foundation.

The organization also supports many Foundation events including Great Strides and CureFinders®, a school fundraising initiative. Additionally, BJ’s donates food for local community fundraisers across the country, and encourages employees to get involved in fighting CF as well.

“For many years, BJ’s has joined in the struggle to fight and eliminate cystic fibrosis,” said Jerry Deitchle, chairman and CEO of BJ’s Restaurants, Inc. “On behalf of the 11,000 team members at our company, BJ’s is pleased to present our donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and continue a partnership that has helped fuel advancements in treatment and care for CF.”

BJ's Restaurants, Inc. currently owns and operates 92 casual dining restaurants under the brand names BJ's Restaurant & Brewery, BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse and BJ's Pizza & Grill. For more information please visit
