Above & Beyond
When President and CEO Dr. Robert J. Beall joined the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1980, the median predicted age of survival for people with CF was 18 years.
Under his leadership — first as medical director and then as president and chief executive — that age has increased to 37.4, and the Foundation continues to make tremendous progress in extending life for those with CF.
Dr. Beall’s innovative idea to fund drug research with biotech companies to develop new CF treatments revolutionized drug development for CF and catapulted the search for a cure.
Before coming to the Foundation, Dr. Beall served on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, and at the National Institutes of Health.
CF mom and Foundation staff member, Gayle Greenberg sat down with Dr. Beall to reflect on his 30 years with the CF Foundation, what progress has been made, and what the future holds for people with CF.
