About GREAT STRIDES

In cities all across the United States, tens of thousands of people just like you are showing their commitment to "adding tomorrows every day" to the lives of those with cystic fibrosis through the simple act of walking.

Year after year, volunteers make every GREAT STRIDES walk site both fun and successful. Their dedication has helped GREAT STRIDES become one of the country's most effective and efficient fundraising efforts. Since the first GREAT STRIDES walk in 1989, more than $180 million has been raised to support the vital research and care programs of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

You can help us reach our 2009 national fundraising goal by participating in a GREAT STRIDES walk near youRegister online today and you'll have the opportunity to use our interactive fundraising tools. You also can invite walkers to join your team, request online donations, and check your fundraising status.

Once you register, there are skilled staff at your local CF Foundation chapter who are available to assist you with your fundraising efforts. Contact your local chapter to learn more about the Foundation's mission, or call us at (800) FIGHT CF.

CF Foundation's Policy on Burkholderia cepacia

Because of risks to people with cystic fibrosis, individuals with a confirmed positive sputum culture for Burkholderia cepacia complex shall not attend this event. This is because B. cepacia can be passed between individuals who have CF through close proximity. B. cepacia infection in a person with CF can cause serious respiratory illness and, in some patients, may lead to death.

Despite this policy, there might still be some individuals with B. cepacia in attendance. B. cepacia is not a risk for otherwise healthy individuals. Learn more about alternative ways in which a person with B. cepacia can participate, or call the CF Foundation at (800) FIGHT-CF. Consult your CF care center physician with medical questions.

Hero Story - Jenny Bulach
When Jenny Bulach's three year old daughter was recently diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, she wanted to know what she could do to help find a cure. GREAT STRIDES was the answer! Jenny quickly organized a team of co-workers at Duke Energy in Cincinnati, held an internal company kickoff for her team, and challenged her 61 walkers to raise dollars online. Her efforts really paid off! The Duke Energy team in their first year raised an amazing $20,190!
