I am asking my friends, family, and Co-workers to join me in a walk to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Many of you know my personal connections to the disease and how much I want better treatments and even a cure for this disease. My best friend Jenny has suffered from CF her entire life. I watched her be healthy at times and I have watched her suffer, gasp for air, cough, and be continuously hospitalized. She is the bravest person I know and I love her more than most will ever know, she is family ro me, like a sister. We have been friends for almost 18 years now and her survival story is incredibly inspiring. She is one of the lucky CF patients that was able to have a normal childhood with minimal illnesses and hospitalizations. Her teenage years were a little more turbulent with more frequent hospital stays. Her disease had prevented her from going to school. Her adult years she pushed to have a normal life. She graduated college, married her husband, and provided constant care of her nephews and great grandmother. Later her disease took a turn for the worst, in 2007 she was hospitalized every 3-4 weeks with CF related illnesses, her last trip to the hospital that year was the most terrifying experience she has had with this disease. She fought for her life and won! Her experience gave her the inspiration to become more involved with learning more about the disease and helping the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She is this years proud chair for the Great Strides Walk.
In my life I have lost someone I loved to this disease. When I was 16, I lost my boyfriend, Jeremy to this disease. He was very sickly and spent most of his time in the hospital. At the time I thought my world was going to end but it helped make me stronger. When he died, it made me appreciate life, my family, my friends, and it helped mold me into the person that I am today. It was a wake up call to not take things for granted because everything can change in one minute. I know what can happen on both ends of the disease spectrum, one can be fairly healthy and one can struggle on a daily basis.
What is Cystic fibrosis (CF)? It is a devastating genetic disease that affects tens of thousands of children and young adults in the United States. Research and care supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is making a huge difference in extending the quality of life for those with CF. However, we continue to lose precious lives to CF every day. That's why your help is needed now more than ever to ensure that a cure is found sooner - rather than later. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is one of the most efficient and effective foundations with nearly 90 cents of every dollar raised is available for investment in vital CF programs to support research, care and education.
Great Strides is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest and most successful national fund-raising event. This year, my team is walking in the Great Strides walk at the 2010 Albuquerque - Kit Carson Park walk on 05/15/2010. Please help my team meet the fund-raising goal of $1500.00 by sponsoring us.
Please join my Great Strides team "FOR JENNY" and walk with me to show support for the Foundation and most of all the people living with CF. If you are unable to attend please donate to sponsor my team in the walk.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with CF! Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation and Great Strides!
