It's that time again...time to start gearing up for the Great Strides walk benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This will be the 4th year Team Bryce Bryce Baby participates in this awesome event. Great Strides is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest and most successful national fund-raising event. This year, the walk will take place at the IC Courtyard in Atlanta on Saturday, May 19, 2012 (8:30 am). The entire Jones Family will be walking in honor of Bryce. We invite any of our family, friends and neighbors to join Team Bryce Bryce Baby and walk with us on May 19th!! Raising funds is not required to walk; however, it is encouraged. Please help us meet our personal fund-raising goal of $5000.00 by sponsoring Bryce. Even if only $5.00, any amount will help make a difference.
Our TEAM fund-raising goal for 2012 is $80000.00. With the help of our fabulous family and friends I know we can meet our goal. Your generous gift will be used efficiently and effectively, as nearly 90 cents of every dollar of revenue raised is available for investment in vital CF programs to support research, care and education.
2011 brought some VERY exciting news to the CF community with the success of the drug Kalydeco (VX770), which targets the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis. This drug works to correct the G551D mutation, which is a rare mutation that Bryce just happens to have. If you haven't heard, Kalydeco received it's FDA approval on January 31, 2012 and is currently available for CF patients 6-years-old and up with the G551D mutation. Bryce is not old enough for the drug as of yet, but it's so comforting to know that it will be available to him in a few short years. This medication is life changing for this small group and we are absolutely thrilled!
There is another promising drug (VX809) in the pipeline that works with Bryce's other mutation (DF508). In clinical trials both of these medications have helped correct the faulty gene, which causes cystic fibrosis. Keep in mind that there are over 1400 different gene mutations of the faulty CF gene so the fact that the drugs target BOTH of his mutations is nothing short of AMAZING!!
Drugs like this would not be possible without generous people like you supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. When you donate money to the CFF, you are not only helping improve and prolong our son's life, you are investing in the lives of the other 30,000 adults and children living with CF in the United States. Making a donation is easy and secure! Just click the "Click to Donate" button on this page to go to make a donation that will be credited to our team. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated! If you decide you want to join Team Bryce Bryce Baby click the "Join my Team" button and follow the directions. We would love to have you walk with us!!
