Team Lucy Olympia!
Friends & Family!
It is with a heart full of genuine thanks that I can write this update today! Since Lucy was born, we have known she has a less common form of Cystic Fibrosis, she has what's known as the G551D genetic mutation. Little did we know when she was born, that this mutation would prove to be the first genetic mutation that CF researchers were able to correct! Thanks to a grant from the Gates Foundation followed with incredible support to the CF Foundation through generous donations from businesses and individuals alike, Vertex Pharmaceutical was able to create a drug known as Kalydeco that helps Lucy's cells to work the right way. This helps loosen mucous that clogs up the lungs and digestive system, it lessens the chance of bacteria building up and improves lung function! The results are incredible, we feel so very blessed!
With these awesome feelings of optimism for Lucy's future come an incredible inspiration to fight and fundraise harder than ever now to help bring this same joy to the lives and families of the other 30,000 people who live every day with Cystic Fibrosis! Our friend Jen who had a double lung transplant in Seattle this year -- Jen needs a version of Kalydeco! Malachy who is 16 and has spent more time in the hospital as a patient than I can imagine, Malachy needs a pill like Kalydeco that will add decades to his life! And then there's people like our friend Rosie who lost three of her siblings to Cystic Fibrosis... Rosie continues the fight in memory of her siblings, she knows what her parents went through and remembers what it was like as her whole family went through such unfathomable losses. These are our inspirations this year. Remembering those who have passed, thinking about those who need our help today and rejoicing at the progress that has been made to help people like Lucy!
Please, we invite you to join us as we work to cure Cystic Fibrosis! Join us for a walk in Olympia along with a deeeelicious burger at the finish line! If you are unable to join us on Sunday June 2nd, please consider making a donation towards the CF Foundation through this website today.
