Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to Roll Out New Coverage Tool to CF Care Centers Nationwide

Beginning this March, the CF Foundation's Patient Assistance Resource Center (PARC) will help implement a new tool for the Foundation's network of 110 cystic fibrosis care centers across the U.S. to help make it easier for care center staff to work with insurers to cover CF treatment and care.

Many insurance plans require that physicians get approval from a patient's health plan to prescribe certain medications - a process known as “prior authorization.” The new electronic tool is designed to expedite the submission of prior authorization requests to health insurance plans and pharmacy benefit managers. The tool will help CF health care providers dedicate more time to patients and less time to the paperwork, while also helping ensure patient access to much-needed medications.

The Foundation's Care Center Network provides expert care for people living with the disease. The National Institutes of Health has cited the CF care center network as a model of effective and efficient health care delivery for a chronic disease.
