The guidelines provide recommendations for people with CF, their families and health care providers to help reduce the risk of dangerous pathogens being spread between people with CF in the clinic and hospital setting, as well as in everyday life.

The updated recommendations reflect a careful two-year review of the latest medical evidence by a multidisciplinary committee, convened by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, with expertise in infection prevention and control and in the daily challenges of living with CF.

The primary goal of the Guidelines, first published in 2003, is to help people with CF preserve and protect their health. The Guidelines aim to provide information on the fundamentals of infection prevention and control to help people with CF and their families make informed decisions in their daily lives.

The Foundation develops care guidelines for cystic fibrosis on a range of key topics, which are used to set a standard of care and serve as a resource for Foundation-accredited care centers.

Questions about the guidelines should be addressed to infectioncontrol@cff.org.
