For 10 years, Compass has been a trusted resource for people with CF and their caregivers by providing free, one-on-one guidance to make the hard stuff easier — from insurance and coverage issues to disability questions and financial concerns. What began as a support service has grown into something much greater: a trusted guide, an advocate, and a source of stability.
More than 19,000 people with cystic fibrosis, accounting for nearly half of all Americans with CF, have turned to Compass at critical moments over the past decade. In that time, Compass has also helped the CF community save at least $17 million — putting money back in their wallets to help pay for things like treatments, food, housing, and utilities.
“I am so grateful to have my case manager on my team for navigating the very challenging and often times frustrating healthcare system,” one Compass caller shared. “It helps so much even to have another set of experienced ears to sort through it all.”
Making the Hard Stuff Easier
On top of a demanding daily care regimen, living with CF also means navigating complicated systems. Compass helps simplify those challenges for individuals and families by connecting them to trusted, CF-specific resources and providing information so they can make the best decisions for their unique circumstances.
Over the past decade, Compass has:
- Conducted more than 15,000 insurance comparisons
- Helped more than 6,400 people troubleshoot coverage issues
- Connected the community to over 3,700 nonprofit and community resources
Real People, Real Help
At the heart of Compass lie experienced case managers who work with individuals one-on-one. Whether someone is choosing a new insurance plan, dealing with a claim denial, or planning for a life change, Compass meets people where they are.
“They were so positive, encouraging, and kept reassuring me that I was not alone,” another Compass caller said. “That meant a lot.”
This team of case managers dedicated to helping the CF community shows that reaching out for help isn’t a last resort — it’s a wise step forward.
A Decade of Showing Up — and Not Slowing Down
Compass calls have informed the Foundation’s advocacy by surfacing the challenges people with CF and their families are facing on the ground right now. Over the past decade that has included identifying new and complicated insurance programs, changes to the medicines insurance plans cover, family and medical leave issues, and more.
So as we celebrate this 10-year milestone, we also look ahead. As the needs of the CF community continue to evolve, and Compass continues to adapt, innovate, and advocate for accessible care, our commitment remains the same: to offer personalized, expert support so nobody in the CF community has to go through these challenges alone.
