The Carolyn and C. Richard Mattingly Leadership in Mental Health Care Award highlights the significance of mental health to the overall well-being of those living with cystic fibrosis and on the important work of researchers and care teams who address mental health as an integral part of specialized CF care.

The award, created in 2016, is given by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to a member of the CF community who displays leadership and a commitment to the mental health and well-being of individuals with CF. The award is named in honor of Richard (Rich) Mattingly, former chief operating officer of the CF Foundation, and his wife, Carolyn. During his tenure, Mattingly helped the Foundation gain a better understanding of how difficult the disease is, emotionally and physically. Carolyn partnered with her husband for decades in the fight against CF. Following her death in September 2014, Carolyn's family and friends established a nonprofit foundation devoted to promoting mental health awareness.
