As vaccinations against COVID-19 begin across the country, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation supports the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices' (ACIP) recommendations regarding the use of COVID-19 vaccines produced by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. We strongly encourage people with cystic fibrosis to talk with their CF care team about getting vaccinated.

Under the ACIP's current recommendations, people who are at greatest risk for exposure and transmission of COVID-19 will be first in line for a vaccine. This includes people who work in health care settings and live and work in long-term care facilities. Essential workers and people over age 75 are recommended as the next group to receive the vaccine. Following these initial groups, vaccines are expected to be available for people who are 16 and older and have underlying health conditions that might put them at increased risk for serious complications from COVID-19 infection, including CF. Vaccine availability and how they are allocated is likely to vary by city and state.

The Foundation continues to advocate for priority access to COVID-19 vaccines for people living with CF and is closely monitoring the scientific developments for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved vaccines to understand how they may impact the CF community.

While vaccination is an important step in protecting our health, we urge all people with CF and those close to them to continue to take precautions to avoid exposure to COVID-19 including wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and hand washing.
